Anthony Anderson and Cedric the Entertainer Put Their Bid In On BBQ

Updated: Aug 7, 2023

Anthony Anderson and Cedric the Entertainer

Cedric the Entertainer and Anthony Anderson are cooking something up and A&E wants to capture it.

Cedric the Entertainer is definitely familiar with knowing what formula works best with his audience. Cedric hails from comedic genius and served as one of the “Kings of Comedy” on tour from 1997-1999 with Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley, and the late great Bernie Mac. His knowledge and ability to read a room and relate to people from all walks of life earned him a seat at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2005. That ability to tap into an audience and know what to serve and when to serve seems to be serving him well now on his new venture with Anthony Anderson.

Anderson is no stranger to winning over crowds and upping his appeal, as he has done just that over a span of 30 years through tv and film. Dating back to his first appearance being a brief shot in a Hip-Hop music video from Success-N-Effect in 1991 to being cast in a slew of television and film projects, to starring in the ABC hit sitcom Black-ish from 2014-2022, which yielded him several NAACP Image Awards from 2019-2022 and multiple Emmy nominations from 2015-2021.

As reported by Variety, the actors are collaborating to introduce their own barbecue brand, AC Barbeque, and will chronicle their journey to perfect the skill of barbecue by way of the new A&E Network series “Kings of BBQ.”

The show, which is still in development under that working title, will follow the two as they travel the country seeking insight and techniques from grilling experts. This month, A&E announced the green light of the 10-episode impromptu series as part of a whirl of news tied to its upfront meetings with advertisers.

“Anthony and I are very excited to take our audience into the savory, smokehouse-filled, finger licking world of barbeque all across the United States,” Cedric The Entertainer said in a statement. Added Anderson: ““The launch of AC Barbeque has been a lifelong dream for Cedric and I and we cannot wait to learn more about the craft and share our journey.”

Propagate is producing “Kings of BBQ” along with A Bird And A Bear (executive producers Cedric The Entertainer and Eric C. Rhone) and Just a Kid From Compton (executive producers Anthony Anderson and Brian Dobbins).

Anderson and Cedric have been friends for years and both grew up with a passion for barbeque.

A summary of the show: “In each one-hour episode, ‘Kings of BBQ’ will follow Cedric and Anthony as they meet with barbeque chefs, pitmasters and everyday experts who share their knowledge and secrets of the trade, highlighting Black Excellence in the industry along the way. From backyards to BBQ pits, the duo will go behind the scenes to master barbeque in all its glory and create a business of their own that honors its legacy and flavors. Along the way, celebrity friends and family will join in on the fun and help share how different cultures and experiences have influenced the delicious cooking technique.”
