Cardi B has come a long way from her Bronx, New York beginnings that gave her street smarts and a personality bigger than a giant. Recently, some of that fiery outspoken personality that yielded her so much attention early on in her career, came to the surface and made an appearance at a performance at Drai's Beachclub in Las Vegas.
At the Vegas show, a microphone was thrown into the crowd by Cardi B during her stage performance. The reason for the “mic drop” was in response to a concert goer throwing water in Cardi’s face. The issue with the water was not an exactly blatant act of disrespect but more so a response to a request by Cardi, where she asked the audience to throw water on her in the sweltering Las Vegas heat. When the water requested was thrown in her face, Cardi responded by hurling the microphone at the audience hitting the woman suspected to be responsible.
Charges that followed the incident have since been dropped.
In a statement to the Los Angeles Times, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police stated, “After a thorough review of this case and with the consultation from the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, this case has been closed as having insufficient evidence. No charges will be filed in relation to this case.”
As reported by USA Today, the alleged microphone thrown by Cardi into the crowd has yielded $99,900 at auction. Scott Fisher, owner of The Wave audio company that allegedly provided sound equipment for the now-infamous performance, listed what he calls "a piece of hip hop infamy" on eBay and intends to donate the proceeds to nonprofit organizations.
The Shure AD2 microphone auction ended Tuesday August 9th and accumulated more than 120 bids, reaching $99,900.
"We provided more than one microphone for this particular show and verified with the in house crew which one was specifically used by Cardi for the show. It was pretty easy to identify though as her mic was marked 'main’," Fisher wrote in the Ebay listing.
According to Fisher, the mic has been tested and still works, though it would need a receiver to be used. He intends to split the funds evenly between the Wounded Warrior Project and Friendship Circle Las Vegas, according to the eBay listing.
