As reported by The Keyword, Google has announced the opening of its new offices in San Salvador, which marks an important milestone in the company's commitment to support the digital transformation of El Salvador. Ever since the collaboration agreement was signed in August 2023, Google has been working towards helping the country modernize its processes and services while providing training to various government entities.
In addition to the opening of the new office, Google has also highlighted the progress made in the areas of digital government, healthcare, and education. The company has been working closely with the government to develop simple digital ecosystems for import, export, health, and sanitary registration. Going forward, they plan to continue supporting the government in developing platforms that allow interoperability between institutions and improve citizen services through digitization.
In the healthcare sector, Google has trained different government agencies on how to use cloud technologies and is currently supporting the development of a telemedicine platform that utilizes cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence to automate processes and provide better access to health services in the country.
Furthermore, Google has been collaborating with El Salvador's Ministry of Education since 2020 to put technology at the center of improving teaching and learning in the nation's public education system. The first phase involved delivering Google Workspace for Education accounts to all students in public schools and training teachers through the Ministry of Education's National Institute for Teacher Training. The company is now supporting the acceleration of the program by delivering the most advanced Google Workspace for Education Plus tools that incorporate AI to personalize the learning experience and introducing Chromebooks for fourth-grade students. The next step is to continue training pedagogical managers to multiply the digital skills of teachers and students in El Salvador.
According to a Google-funded study from AlphaBeta, digital technologies such as cloud computing and AI could create a potential opportunity for up to $3.4 trillion per year of economic impact in the major and emerging economies in Latin America, Eastern Europe, Africa, and the Middle East by 2030. The collaboration with the Government of El Salvador is recognized as an attestation to this potential.
In addition to the new office and the ongoing digital transformation efforts, Google.org, the company's philanthropic arm, will provide a donation of $200,000 USD to civil society organizations in the region to offer digital skills training to local entrepreneurs to help support the development of local businesses. Businesses of all sizes can make use of digital platforms to effectively convey their message and connect with potential customers. Growth Digital is helping support Salvadoran businesses by giving them the instruments and experience to harness the power of Google Ads to evolve their businesses.
