As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Kevin Hart's venture into the vegan fast-food industry has come to an abrupt end as his chain, Hart House, announced the closure of all its locations after just two years.
In a brief, but somber message posted on its official Instagram account, the restaurant bid farewell, saying, "To our team, guests, and community, who helped make the change we all craved. A Hartfelt goodbye for now as we start a new chapter."
Hart House, which had four outlets in Los Angeles County, offered a menu featuring plant-based burgers, "chicken" sandwiches and nuggets, salads, tater tots, milkshakes, and more.
CEO Andy Hooper expressed gratitude in a statement to Eater LA, saying, "The response to the product has been incredible, and we thank our committed team, our customers, and our community partners for helping make the change we all craved, and for their unwavering support of Hart House."
Kevin Hart had expressed his vision for Hart House in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in August 2022, stating, "I wanted to give people a plant-based option" after observing a lack of vegan choices in the realm of fast food. The actor and comedian had disclosed in 2020 that he had transitioned to a predominantly plant-based diet.
He further elaborated on his intention, saying, "If I can give people a place to have the option that's placed smack dab in the middle of where your McDonald's, Chick-fil-A, and Burger King [are], people may see a Hart House and say, 'I'm going to go plant-based today.'"
Despite the closure of all locations, at the time of writing, the reason behind the decision has not been publicly disclosed.
