We often hear the expression “time is money”, but we rarely consider what that means for a celebrity. Many think that the life of a Hip-Hop artist is one of celebration, shopping, shows and afterparties, but that’s not the whole picture. There are many days and nights dedicated to their craft, studio sessions, promotional engagements, contractual obligations, multi-city tours, sleepless travel and so on. All of this while trying to find time for family, friends, loved ones and romantic interests while simultaneously keeping one’s mind clear of celebrity gossip, rumors, and ill-spoken words. I would say that time is actually more valuable than money because it is harder to acquire and harder to keep.
Lil Baby, in the company of rap elites and top athletes, has accomplished the feat of “finding time” to give back with Fanatics, the online/offline sports apparel and fan gear store.
As reported by TMZ, On June 27th, 2023 a massive merchandise giveaway, put together by Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin, was executed with the help of rap artists Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Meek Mill, Quavo, A$AP Ferg and pro athletes Tom Brady, Eli Manning, Odell Beckham Jr., Russell Willson and Chris Paul. The Fanatics Global Volunteer Day was aimed at assisting underserved families throughout the United States. More than 300,000 pieces of licensed apparel in the form of hats, hoodies, jerseys and more, were given away to an estimated 100,000 families. The apparel donated equaled roughly $20 million.
The first stop for the Fanatics Global Volunteer Day was Frederick Douglass Academy in Harlem, New York, which was just one of 100 stops in 30 cities scheduled for the day.
As reported by Sports Business Journal, in an interview with CBS Mornings, Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin stated, “We always love to find a way to make a difference and we started last year with this Global Impact Day where all of our employees take one day off to make the country, the world a better place.”
Lil Baby was so inspired by the giveaway that he went on to create a song about it, which can be heard here: Lil Baby - Merch Madness
