As reported by Benzinga, in a recent conversation with YouTuber Cleo Abram, Meta Platforms, Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg discussed a range of topics, including the company's latest technological advancement, the Orion AR Glasses.
Zuckerberg, in an interview uploaded to YouTube recently, touted the Orion AR Glasses as "the first-ever full holographic augmented reality glasses." He emphasized that the development of these glasses is a culmination of ten years of thorough research and development, with the goal of condensing all the necessary computing power to project full holograms into the physical world.
When questioned about the purpose behind creating such a device, the Meta CEO expressed his belief that these glasses will emerge as the next major computing platform.
"I think that the trend in computing is it gets more ubiquitous, it gets more natural, and it just gets more social, so you want to be able to interact with people in the world around you, and I think that this is probably going to be the next major platform after phones," he articulated.
While the Orion AR Glasses are currently in the prototype stage, Zuckerberg conveyed his optimism that the next iteration will become a consumer product accessible to a broad audience. The unveiling of the new Orion prototype AR Glasses took place at the Meta Connect 2024 event last week.
In the aftermath of the event, analysts re-evaluated Meta, showcasing heightened confidence in Meta's hardware and XR product roadmap.
They observed that the tech giant is at the vanguard of a new computing platform and emphasized the potential for Orion to represent the next primary consumer computing platform.
In response to a user's observation about the stark contrast between current accolades and past criticism in 2022, the Meta CEO reaffirmed his commitment to the long-term plan.
He also underscored the significance of maintaining this perspective in light of fluctuating market sentiment, stating, "You're never as good as they say when you're up, and you're never as bad as they say when you're down."
