On June 3rd, 2023 Philadelphia, PA got a show to remember! What was supposed to be a Roots Picnic performance from the Grammy Award winning Lauryn Hill, turned out to be a reunion show from the Grammy Award winning group, the Fugees. This reunion tour was attempted back in 2022, but was canceled due to Pandemic related issues. The reason this reunion performance may be more significant and more pressing to have attended, is because one of the members, Pras, is facing up to 20 years in prison for government level conspiracy.
The Fugees have made a mark on Hip Hop that will always stand the test of time. Their Grammy winning album The Score has secured them a space on stages worldwide whenever the opportunity to take the stage presents. If you weren’t present at their Philly performance, you’re not alone, I wasn’t either, but I celebrate vicariously through those that were in attendance and got to see the talented trio perform, for possibly the last time.
Their smash hits “Ready or Not” and “Killing Me Softly” were two of the songs performed during Lauryn’s set. The grand finale and most fitting song to close the reunion set was Fugee fan favorite “Fu-Gee-La”.
