Salt-N-Pepa Is Added To Super7’s Hip-Hop Action Figure Line Among Beastie Boys, OutKast, Notorious B.I.G. and RZA

As reported by Variety, the iconic 1980s Hip-Hop group Salt-N-Pepa is set to break new ground once again by becoming the first female Hip-Hop artists to be immortalized as action figures. San Francisco-based pop culture collectible manufacturer Super7 will be launching a two-pack of plastic figures modeled after Salt-N-Pepa's distinctive looks from their music video for "Push It," which was a breakthrough hit for the group and earned them a Grammy nomination along with 1.5 million albums sold worldwide. This release marks a significant milestone as the first of its kind for female Hip-Hop artists.

The figures, currently able to be pre-ordered for June arrival, will showcase Salt-N-Pepa's famous eight-ball jackets from the "Push It" video, evoking nostalgic memories of the iconic 1987 track that propelled them to global stardom. Although the jackets themselves will not be available with the figures at this time, the collectible set captures the essence of the group's influential style.

While the set does not feature the group's longtime DJ, Spinderella, it represents the latest addition to Super7's collection of action figures inspired by Hip-Hop legends. The company has previously paid homage to renowned acts such as OutKast, Run-D.M.C., Beastie Boys, RZA, KRS-One, Ghostface Killah, MF Doom, and Notorious B.I.G. through their collectible line.

Most of the figures in Super7's collection stand at 3.75” in height, reminiscent of the Kenner "Star Wars" toys from the 1980s. However, the company recently introduced an "Ultimates" line featuring poseable 7” figures for some of their more popular releases, offering fans a larger and more flexible option. This line includes detailed accessories and interchangeable heads with different facial expressions, adding to the figures’ appeal.

Since its establishment in 2001, Super7 has successfully tapped into the nostalgia of toy collectors from the 1980s and '90s, expanding its offerings beyond traditional genre figures to encompass a wide array of pop culture icons from music, film, television, sports, and animation.

The company's spokesperson explained, "We aim to celebrate artists who have significantly influenced the music industry, pop culture, and who have also influenced our own lives. We work in collaboration with the artist or their representatives to decide what era to celebrate, such as an album or music video. The conversation also includes what form factor and stylization would be appropriate for the artist."

In addition to the Salt-N-Pepa figures and the Hip-Hop collectibles, Super7 has multiple figures and collectibles scheduled for release in the coming weeks, including a 20" tall Toho Super Shogun Mechagodzilla with poseable features and missile-firing fingers, priced at $395.
