Transformers Transform The Box Office

Updated: Jun 25, 2023

“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” has been making waves in the box office with a $190 million North American sales achievement and a $384 million sales record worldwide. These numbers make “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” Sony’s highest yielding animation film in the company’s history. Despite this phenomenal accomplishment, there is another favorite that has entered the box office and transformed the face and name of the current “box office bully”. That box office bully is none other than "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts".

If you are a Transformers follower from the original cartoon series to the present day live-action evolution of the story, you are aware of how captivating the story and concept are and have been for decades. According to USAToday ,"Transformers: Rise of the Beasts," the seventh live-action entry in the series, took the No. 1 spot in its first weekend in North American theaters with $60.5 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" wasn't too far behind, however, with an estimated $55.4 million in its second weekend. Earning $110 million from international viewership and pulling in $170 million upon its global release, it seems that the response to the film were not as impressive as “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”.

Film critic site, Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a “splat” on the Tomatometer, meaning less than 60% of reviews for the movie were positive and the film is rotten. On the other hand, the Audience Score from Rotten Tomatoes was 91% with 2500+ verified ratings, meaning at least 60% of users gave the movie a star rating of 3.5 or higher.

"It’s still a whole lot of earnest diatribes, hokey zingers and assorted nonsense," USA TODAY movie critic Brian Truitt wrote. "But it’s at least crowd-pleasing, candy-in-your-popcorn nonsense."

For now it seems that Transformers are the keepers of the movie-verse.
